On Saturday I gave in to my newfound chess addiction. This was fueled by the fact that I had just recently installed Chessmaster 10th Edition on my computer, and was hell bent on beating Lisa, a 1006 ranked computer opponent that I just can not beat.
It's been a long time since we've has a Netflix / Soup party, but it was finally Time again. Jennings, Dan, Winston, Bitters and Eyal came over to watch Ingrid Bergman's The Seventh Seal. As it happens, the hobos were there too. Much fun was had by all.

On Friday, Kate came across three kids panhandling in the Loop, and invited them to the 'nidge to crash. Nate, Paul and Kesia(sp?) turned out to be awesome (self-described) hobos. They were freight-hopping, and left on Saturday morning to jump a train to Florida.
They really reminded me of my cousin's friends, from back when we were roommates in NYC--extremely good natured, and a lot of fun. I've been reading about train hopping for a while, now, and it was great to meet folks who are actually do... more->
Huh, I just got mugged. Never happened to me before, but there you go. I was walking home from a party (down Elmdale, no less, quite a quiet street) and some guy cut in front of me. As I was apologizing for almost bumping into him, another guy jumped me from behind and they started hitting me. I found this to be quite surprising, and not at all pleasant.
I said, "Hey, hey, hey, what's the problem here?" and, it turned out, the problem was that I hadn't given them any money. Easily remedied.<... more->
